Do you approve of eliminating the current $22.00 Recreation Facility Fee (Canyonview Pool Fee) and the creation of a new $22.00 Canyonview Aquatics & Recreation Center Fee?

This referendum will retire and supersede all conditions of the 2011 UCSD Recreation Facility Fee Renewal Referendum.

This referendum will establish a new (replacement) $22.00 per student per quarter fee (including Summer Session) to pay for the construction and maintenance of a new Canyonview Aquatics & Recreation Center, including the adjacent pools.

This referendum will apply to both graduate and undergraduate students.

29% of the total fee collected ($6.38 in the first year of implementation) will be directed to need‐based financial aid.

$11.18 of this fee will pay for debt service required to construct a new 35,000 gross square foot Canyonview Aquatics & Recreation Center. This portion of the fee is not subject to inflationary adjustments. Upon retirement of debt service, estimated to be 30 years after the facility opens, the $11.18 portion of this fee will be subject to reduction by student referendum and/or University policy.

$4.44 of this fee will pay for the operation and maintenance of the Canyonview Aquatics & Recreation Center for the lifetime of the facility and the adjacent pools. To accommodate for inflation, this portion of the fee will be subject to annual adjustments equal to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and will continue to be collected after debt service is retired.

50% of the prior‐quarter’s full fee (Spring) will be assessed if a student attends one Summer Session. 100% of the prior‐quarter’s full fee will be assessed if a student attends two or more Summer Sessions.

This fee will be overseen by the student‐led Recreation Facilities Advisory Board (RFAB).

Subject to RFAB approval, any amount of fee collected in excess of debt service, maintenance, and operational needs may be utilized for other needs associated with the facility and the adjacent pools, including but not limited to equipment, landscaping, and programming.

This referendum will go into effect upon the construction and opening of a new Canyonview Aquatics and Recreation Center, estimated to be Fall Quarter 2022.
